Dollar Store Science has arrived!

The day is finally here everyone!

After many months of development we are proud to present Dollar Store Science.

This series of lessons brings a solid foundation of science understanding to you and your children. We split it into 4 separate mini-series consisting of 3 basic “lessons”.

For each mini-series we’ll send you a few emails that will point you back to SuperFunScience.com’s website. On those pages there will be a short lesson, an experiment and a quiz. A video accompanies the entire day so you can follow along with the lesson and the experiment.

All of these experiments will utilize materials you can either find at home or pick up at the discount store for a few dollars. That’s where the name “Dollar Store Science” comes from! You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to get your children interested in learning science!

Each mini-series is on sale separately for $12.95US or you can purchase all four mini-series for $42.00US…

Except this week I want to offer everyone FIVE DOLLARS of the complete package. Simply enter the coupon code “A31369CFA2″ for five dollars off of the entire Dollar Store Science series.

Now Introducing Super Frog!!!

Those typical mutant claws that stick out of a superheroes hands when the real fighting starts, they are actual all right. In reality though, they are just a little small and are found in frogs.

And maybe the strangest element is that these pop-out superhero claws don’t slide by tiny slits. These claws in two genera [...]

How do insects act when it’s cold?

When winters arrive, everyone from the mightiest to the smallest creature goes into hiding, especially in the cold regions of the world. Even humans for that matter prefer to stay within the confines of their warm home and put on warm clothes to maintain their body temperature.
Many animals, on the other hand, undergo hibernation. The [...]

How do insects act when it’s cold?

Insects use a variety of means to survive the cold winter months.

The Story of the Sea Floor

On the sea floor, over 10,000 feet below us, lies a world very different from ours. The sheer depth of the sea floor ensures that few can unravel the mysteries it contains, as even catching a glimpse is no simple task! Nevertheless, man’s desire to discover and explore our world is insatiable, and we have [...]

Fleas and worms at the vetenarian

Rick and The Little Guy visit Dr. Michelle Yasson from http://holvet.net to talk about fleas and tapeworms and other gross things.

Cool Science Stories this week 3

Well, that was a disgusting week for us to get through…  Parasites = Yuck.
Next up… Pulleys!  Pulleys are everywhere you look and we’ll get into the details of these simple machines.
But first let’s recap some of the other science stories we found this week:

Beneficial and unusual parasites

Not all parasites are completely harmful, and it is always a good idea to see a doctor if you are concerned. You are probably better off without them but some may be good for you in small amounts.

Parasite Video

Amanda went to visit Tony from The Breath of Life. He gave a great explanation of internal human parasites (ewww, gross) for us.

What is a parasite?

Parasites are small organisms; they are often too tiny to be seen with the naked eye. However, others parasites like mites and ticks can be visible. There are many types of parasitic fungus and parasitic insects.

What’s that? 9

A fungus among us
A parasite too
Bad for bugs

The history of water pollution

Let us look at a brief history of water pollution, where it came from, and what are the factors that lead to water pollution.

What’s That 8

Nasty and Smelly
Bad for everything
Don’t drink that!

How to decrease water pollution at home

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and ground water. This contamination may harm humans, animals and plants depending on the contaminated water. If you want to avoid sickness coming form contaminated water, you may need to ensure that you will decrease water pollution from your home.

Why do bugs fly around lights?

This week we answer a question from David in North Carolina, USA.
He asks, “Why do bugs flay around the lite outside on my porch?
Amanda explains on video…

How to Feed Cats

Housecat’s are descended from desert hunters.  Should we be feeding them dry food with wheat and rice in it?  Many vetenarians are changing their opinion about this lately.
We visited our friend Dr. Michelle Yasson from http://HolVet.net for the straight story. We filmed a video so we could share with you.
-enjoy

What’s That 5

Wet and rough
Made for cleaning
Meow?

What Makes Milk White?

This week we answer a question we got last week from Mike in Texas, “Why is milk white?” Some people will say that it’s because the fat floating in it (ewww) but they would not be telling you the whole story. IN fact, they are pretty far off base. We sat down and Amanda decided she could better answer this one.

Science Games Fun

Here it comes!
We just got our first batch of science based games back to share with everyone.
We’ll be adding a new one or two every month so it won’t be long until we have many, many, many.
Check it out!  http://superfunscience.com/science-games/

Cool Science stories this week 2

Here’s some interesting articles we found on the internet this week:
http://www.livescience.com/environment/080724-black-smokers.html
What’s hundreds of feet underwater, is hotter than boiling water and in the arctic circle? A field of underwater “black smokers.” Some of these deep-water volcanic vents are teeming with strange life like crabs that eat bacteria that eat sulfur and shrimp that [...]
